Strategy
Tier-1 Izzet prowess tempo. Curve out a haste prowess threat, then chain cheap cantrips and burn to pump it and close fast. Stormcatch Mentor is the keystone two-drop: haste, prowess, and a Goblin-Electromancer cost-reduction on every instant and sorcery, which turns each burn spell into a tempo profit. Firebending Student and Heartfire Immolator round out the two-slot with prowess plus reach; Iguana Parrot (flying, vigilant prowess) is the marquee evasive three-drop. Ty Lee, Chi Blocker is the flexible insurance piece — flash prowess that taps down a blocker or attacker on the way in. The token engines snowball the board: Stormchaser’s Talent and Otterball Antics print prowess Otters, and Ral, Crackling Wit is the apex payoff — it gains loyalty off every noncreature spell, makes Otters, and refills the hand (with a storm-emblem ult that ends games). The interaction suite is all cheap instant-speed prowess fuel that doubles as removal and reach: Burst Lightning (kicker scales late), Lightning Strike, Slick Sequence (2 + a cantrip), Torch the Tower (exile + scry), Plasma Bolt, and Abrade. Opt, Chart a Course, and Lightshell Duo keep the gas flowing while triggering prowess.
Upgrade path
MYTHIC CRAFTS (this deck): Ral, Crackling Wit x2 (own0 mythic) — the apex prowess payoff, clearly raises the power ceiling, so the 2 copies are worth the wildcards. Running mythic-craft count for this deck = 2 distinct / 2 copies (well under the lean ⇐4-5 target and the shared ~21 budget). ZERO new rare crafts: every rare in the 60 is OWNED — Firebending Student x4 (own4), Stormchaser’s Talent x3 (own4), Ty Lee, Chi Blocker x4 (own4), and the manabase rares Steam Vents x1 (own1), Thundering Falls x1 (own1), Restless Spire x1 (own1). All other nonbasics are commons/uncommons crafted freely: the key free uncommon staples are Stormcatch Mentor x3 (own0 uncommon — the real premier Izzet two-drop; note the build-intel ‘Marauding Mako’ does not exist in this set’s pool, so Stormcatch Mentor is the correct free uncommon engine) and Otterball Antics x1 (own0 uncommon, flashback prowess token). FUTURE UPGRADES once Mik has more rare wildcards: craft Riverpyre Verge x2-4 (own0 rare UR untapped dual) to replace the tapped Baron/Airship duals and sharpen the manabase; additional copies of Steam Vents would also help fix the slightly tapland-heavy base. No shocklands or other unowned rares were added, per policy.
