Strategy

A grindy Golgari sacrifice-value deck that turns dead bodies into cards, life swings, and creature-lands. Cheap recurring fodder (Infestation Sage, Reassembling Skeleton, Earth Village Ruffians) feeds a stack of draw engines: Beetle-Headed Merchants and Vampire Gourmand sacrifice on attack to draw and connect, Buzzard-Wasp Colony sacs on ETB and inherits counters, and Wardens of the Cycle turns every death into a free end-step draw. Cauldron of Essence drains the table on each death and rebuys creatures from the yard.

This refinement leans into the earthbend ramp the original undervalued: Earth Village Ruffians is perfect sac fuel — when it dies it earthbends 2, leaving you a +2/+2 haste creature-land that doubles as ramp and as more bodies for the sacrifice engines, while Paramecia Coloniex keeps the graveyard stocked and recurs your best creature. The midgame is a removal wall — Hero’s Downfall, Bitter Triumph, Bake into a Pie and Grapple with Death mop up threats while you out-card the table, then Zombify rebuys your best creature for inevitability. Cost of Brilliance is the dedicated refuel button. The manabase adds the owned Temple of Malady (scry-on-entry) over a Guildgate to smooth draws.

Upgrade path

Zero rare/mythic SPELL crafts. The only unowned rare is the approved shockland Overgrown Tomb (1 copy), the lone untapped true BG source in the pool. All other nonbasics are OWNED commons/uncommons; Temple of Malady (own1, scry-on-entry BG dual) is an OWNED rare LAND used as-is, not a craft. Owned rare/mythic spells (High-Society Hunter, Preacher of the Schism, Bloodghast, Phyrexian Arena) were deliberately kept out to honor the no-rare-spell discipline and keep the curve clean.

Changes from prior build: ADDED Vampire Gourmand (2-mana sac-to-draw attacker — a cheaper Beetle-Headed effect the truncated text hid), Earth Village Ruffians (dies → earthbend 2 = ramp + creature-land, premier green-mechanic fodder), Wardens of the Cycle (repeatable morbid draw), and Bake into a Pie (removal + Food lifegain). CUT Festerleech and Bloodghast (weakest fodder; Bloodghast can’t block and fights the grind plan), trimmed a redundant Murder, a Grapple, and a Pirate Peddlers, and swapped a Golgari Guildgate + a Foggy Bottom Swamp for the scrying Temple of Malady. A 2nd Overgrown Tomb is the only remaining manabase upgrade lane.
