The Commander’s REAL ability (verified via CLI, --full-text)
“This spell can’t be countered. Indestructible. Toski attacks each combat if able. Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, draw a card.”
Note vs. the scout paraphrase: the draw triggers on any creature you control dealing combat damage to a player (not just Toski), it triggers once per creature that connects (not “a card when Toski connects”), and the “must attack” / indestructible / uncounterable clauses are exactly as the scout described. Printed text governs: a wide board of small creatures that each land combat damage on any player draws that many cards every combat. commander_oracle_ok = true.
Gameplan
A true commons go-wide engine. Flood the board with cheap creatures and tokens, give them evasion or trample so they connect, and Toski converts every point of chip damage into a fresh card. Because the draw is per-creature, even a swarm of 1/1 Squirrels and Saprolings refills the hand faster than the table can answer — that is the inevitability. Toski herself is indestructible and uncounterable, so the engine is hard to remove; her forced attack is upside here, not a liability, since she draws when she connects too.
We close games with mass-pump “overrun” effects (Chorus of Might, Strength in Numbers) that turn the board into lethal trample damage in one swing while simultaneously drawing a huge fistful of cards.
Role breakdown (counts)
- Lands: 37 — 32 Forest + Khalni Garden (free Plant body), Tranquil Thicket (cycles late), Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, Ash Barrens.
- Ramp: 10 — Llanowar Elves, Elvish Mystic, Fyndhorn Elves, Woodland Mystic, Wirewood Elf, Sakura-Tribe Elder, Jewel Thief, Springbloom Druid, Sylvan Ranger, Heart Warden. (Llanowar Visionary also taps for mana but is counted as draw.)
- Card advantage: 10 — Llanowar Visionary, Elvish Visionary, Shaman of Spring, Generous Stray, Sarulf’s Packmate, Loxodon Eavesdropper, Feral Prowler, Byway Courier, Treetop Sentries, Multani’s Acolyte. (Plus Wirewood Savage / Vivien’s Grizzly as engines, and Toski as the overarching draw engine.)
- Spot removal / interaction: 10 — Prey Upon, Prizefight, Pounce, Rabid Bite, Hunt the Weak, Clear Shot, Epic Confrontation, Plummet, Return to Nature, Naturalize. (Green fight/bite + flyer/artifact/enchantment answers.)
- Mass / pseudo-finisher: 5 — Chorus of Might, Strength in Numbers, Crash the Ramparts, Wildsize, plus team-pumps Spectral Hunt-Caller & Tajuru Beastmaster.
- Token makers (go-wide core): Chatter of the Squirrel, Chatterstorm, Acorn Harvest, Dwynen’s Elite, Saproling Migration, Sprout Swarm, Scatter the Seeds, Nest Invader, Ferocious Pup, Tukatongue Thallid, Khalni Garden.
- Evasion / anthem / pump: Silhana Ledgewalker, River Boa, Garruk’s Companion, Rancor, Spidersilk Armor, Gaea’s Gift, Snakeskin Veil, Bannerhide Krushok, Mammoth Spider, Watcher in the Web, Wildheart Invoker, Hunger of the Howlpack, Nimble Mongoose, Almighty Brushwagg.
Win condition
Inevitability through card advantage, finishing with mass trample. Toski draws a card for every creature that connects each combat, so a go-wide board out-grinds the table on resources. Once the board is wide, a single Chorus of Might or Strength in Numbers (each scales with creature count) grants trample and a massive buff for a one-shot kill — and the connecting team draws a fistful of cards even on a non-lethal swing. Spectral Hunt-Caller and Tajuru Beastmaster give repeatable / instant team buffs as backup closers.
No board wipes — green’s compensation
Green has zero true mass-removal at common. We compensate exactly as the rubric prescribes: dense spot interaction (10 fight/bite/destroy effects) plus the inevitability of Toski’s refilling hand. We never run out of gas, and fight spells fueled by an oversized board pick off the scariest single threats.
Pilot notes
- Lead on a mana dork into a 2-drop token maker; you want a wide board by turn 3-4 so Toski’s first attack draws multiple cards.
- Toski must attack — that’s fine. Even chipping in for 1 with her draws a card; with a wide team she’s bonus damage.
- Hold a fight spell up when you have a beefed creature; Prizefight even nets a Treasure.
- Save Chorus of Might / Strength in Numbers for the alpha strike — they read damage off board width, so cast them at maximum board.
- Rancor and Gaea’s Gift push a single attacker through to guarantee the draw and survive removal; Snakeskin Veil / Gaea’s Gift protect Toski’s enablers (she protects herself).
- Tranquil Thicket and Treetop Sentries give late-game gas dumps; Sakura-Tribe Elder and Springbloom Druid fix the mana early.
Weaknesses
- Sweepers. A wrath resets the swarm; Toski survives (indestructible) but the engine slows. Rebuild fast with token makers and the cards already drawn.
- Fliers / reach gaps. Most tokens are grounded — Spidersilk Armor, Mammoth Spider, Watcher in the Web, and Plummet are the only air defense.
- No instant-speed protection from edicts/exile. Toski dodges destroy/counter but not exile or sacrifice effects.
- Pillowfort / Fog effects blunt the combat-damage trigger, which is the whole engine.
