Eluge, the Shoreless Sea — Mono-U Flood / Spells-Matter Tempo-Control (Bracket 4)
Gameplan. Land-light-looking but land-hungry: every Island you control pumps Eluge (its P/T scales with Islands) and every flood counter makes lands into Islands, so the deck plays a tempo-control game while quietly assembling a lethal commander. You cantrip and ramp early (Sol Ring, Ancient Tomb, medallions, High Tide), protect the board with the deepest counter suite in the color, and grind card advantage with a genuinely oppressive draw package (Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, Consecrated Sphinx, Svyelun). Eluge also makes your first instant/sorcery each turn drastically cheaper as it floods lands — lean into that to double-spell: flood a land, then fire a counter or bounce for a discount.
Win lines.
- Primary — Eluge commander damage. Flood lands to grow Eluge, then punch through with unblockable/evasion redundancy (Thassa, Rogue’s Passage, Whispersilk Cloak, Aqueous Form) protected by Kira. Realistically a 2-3 connect clock from ~10-16 power, not a one-shot — so protect the connect enabler and swing early.
- Secondary — Psychic Corrosion deck-out. The huge draw engine now has a payoff: every card you draw mills all opponents. Blue Sun’s Zenith / Stroke of Genius / Pull from Tomorrow become table-wide mill kills, and Rhystic/Remora/Sphinx passively deck the pod. This is the resilient, board-independent closer the old list lacked.
- Tertiary — Islands-matter merfolk swarm. Lord of Atlantis, Master of the Pearl Trident, Merrow Reejerey, Merfolk Sovereign + islandwalk becomes lethal once your floods turn opponents’ lands into Islands. Flavor-forward backup, not the main plan.
Control shell. 13 counters incl. free ones (Force of Will, Force of Negation, Fierce Guardianship, Pact, Flusterstorm, Mental Misstep) + cheap tempo (Spell Pierce, Swan Song, Offer). Bounce is your only answer to resolved noncreature stax — keep all of it (Cyclonic Rift, River’s Rebuke, Chain of Vapor, Repeal, Into the Flood Maw). Grafdigger’s Cage + Soul-Guide Lantern patch the graveyard-hate hole against Breach/reanimator.
