Strategy

Dimir ninja tempo-combo. Deploy a 0-1 mana evasive creature (Changeling Outcast, Ornithopter, Faerie Seer, Slither Blade, Triton Shorestalker, Tormented Soul, Gingerbrute, Baleful Strix, Dimir Infiltrator), swing, then commander-ninjutsu Yuriko in for {U}{B} by bouncing the unblocked attacker. Every ninja combat-damage trigger reveals the top card and drains each opponent for its mana value while drawing it. Top-of-library manipulation (Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain, Sensei’s Divining Top, Scroll Rack, Vampiric Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Personal Tutor) stacks high-MV bombs (Temporal Trespass, Treasure Cruise, Dig Through Time, Sea Gate Restoration, Shadow of Mortality — each hits for 7-12) on top so that even a single connection is a huge life swing; extra ninjas (Ingenious Infiltrator, Mistblade Shinobi, Moon-Circuit Hacker, Fallen Shinobi) plus extra turns (Temporal Trespass, Temporal Manipulation) chain multiple triggers per turn for lethal drain. Fast mana (Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Chrome Mox, Mox Diamond, Lotus Petal, Dark/Cabal Ritual, signets) powers explosive starts and a dense free/cheap counter suite (Force of Will, Force of Negation, Fierce Guardianship, Pact of Negation, Mana Drain, Flusterstorm, Mental Misstep, Daze, Swan Song) protects the plan and disrupts rival combos. The deterministic backup kill is Thassa’s Oracle plus a library-exiler. Wins by (a) accumulated Yuriko drain, or (b) the compact Consultation/Pact + Thassa’s Oracle line, often assembled or accelerated by Doomsday under a board of ninjas.

Key lines:

  • Thassa’s Oracle + Demonic Consultation: cast Thassa’s Oracle, hold priority on its enter trigger, cast Demonic Consultation naming a card not in your deck to exile your entire library, then let the Oracle trigger resolve with an empty library to win the game.
  • Thassa’s Oracle + Tainted Pact: cast Thassa’s Oracle, in response cast Tainted Pact and exile your whole (singleton) library since no two nonbasic cards share a name, then resolve the Oracle trigger with an empty library to win.
  • Doomsday + Thassa’s Oracle: resolve Doomsday to set a short pile ending in Thassa’s Oracle (plus a cantrip/mana), draw into and cast Oracle with a near-empty library to win; with several ninjas already attacking, Yuriko/ninja combat triggers instead rip the whole 5-card pile into hand.
  • Yuriko drain kill: with multiple ninjas connecting (Ingenious Infiltrator, Mistblade Shinobi, Fallen Shinobi, plus commander Yuriko) and high-MV cards stacked on top via Brainstorm/Scroll Rack/Vampiric Tutor, repeated triggers — extended by Temporal Trespass/Temporal Manipulation extra turns — drain each opponent for 7-12+ per flip, quickly reaching lethal across the table.

Harden pass: Net upgrade with no loss to the core gameplan. The Thassa’s Oracle + Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact/Doomsday combo core is untouched; Jace, Wielder of Mysteries removes the deck’s only true single point of failure by adding a second empty-library win. The interaction suite gains its two biggest missing pieces without adding dead cards: Faerie Macabre (free graveyard hate vs Breach/delve/reanimator) and Opposition Agent (tutor/fetch theft) are both 3-CMC bodies that still fuel Yuriko reveals. Frantic Search replaces a win-more ninja with real combo velocity (delve/threshold/top-setup). The manabase trades two chronically-tapped lands for untapped, fetchable basics, improving T1-3 explosiveness. Trade-off: three ninjas removed slightly thins the ninjutsu subtheme and Tainted Pact’s empty-library line is marginally less reliable with 8 duplicate basics, but both are minor in a combo-centric list where Demonic Consultation is the clean enabler. Overall: more resilient wincon, materially better meta coverage, cleaner mana.
