Strategy
Winota, Joiner of Forces — Boros hatebears aggro-combo (cEDH)
Core plan. Deploy cheap non-Human enablers (mana rocks are irrelevant here — creatures), swing with them, and let Winota cheat Humans into play attacking. Those Humans are either hatebears that lock the table out of the format’s fast combos, or the pieces of a two-card infinite that ends the game. Stax backbone (Drannith Magistrate, both Thalias, Sanctum Prelate, Grand Abolisher, Esper Sentinel, Aven Mindcensor) slows blue combo/tutor decks while Winota assembles the kill.
Trigger engine. Non-Human attackers are the fuel. Persistent free triggers now come from Kari Zev (spits a Monkey token attacker every combat), Young Pyromancer and Monastery Mentor (token attackers off cheap spells), Legion Warboss / Goblin Rabblemaster / Krenko / Hero of Bladehold / Adeline (go-wide token makers), plus zero-drops Ornithopter / Signal Pest and Ragavan to get online turn one.
Primary win — infinite tokens → damage. Kiki-Jiki + Village Bell-Ringer (copy’s ETB untaps Kiki) OR Kiki + Zealous Conscripts (untaps Kiki) makes infinite hasty tokens; convert with a pre-resolved Impact Tremors or Goblin Bombardment (two redundant outlets, both Enlightened Tutor targets). Note this is a 3-card kill (Kiki + untap partner + outlet) — the tokens themselves are not lethal, they need the ETB/sac outlet on board first.
Primary win — infinite combats. Kiki-Jiki + Combat Celebrant (copy attacks, exerts, untaps team + extra combat, remake) = unbounded combats and Winota re-triggers → lethal board.
Secondary win. Godo, Bandit Warlord fetches Helm of the Host on ETB (and Godo is himself a free Winota flip); pay the {5} equip and imprint Godo for infinite combats/tokens. Helm is also found by Steelshaper’s Gift, Enlightened Tutor, and Gamble.
Go-wide backup. Winota + Aurelia / Scourge of the Throne / Combat Celebrant chains combats and re-triggers flips for raw commander-damage / trample kills.
Protecting the combo (RW’s real weakness). Every kill routes through a creature living to a combat step and RW runs no free counters. Shields: Mother of Runes, Giver of Runes, Selfless Spirit, Grand Abolisher, Deflecting Swat, Boros Charm, Teferi’s Protection, and the new Reconnaissance — attack to fire Winota, then yank attackers out of combat before damage/blocks to dodge removal and keep re-triggering safely.
Stack answers. Red Elemental Blast + Pyroblast are the only in-identity counters to an opposing Thassa’s Oracle, a Rhystic/Consult, or a counter on your combo turn. Rest in Peace + Soul-Guide Lantern shut off Underworld Breach / reanimator / Oracle-recursion — asymmetric, since this deck never uses its own graveyard.
