Strategy
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician — Bant Stax-Tempo (cEDH)
Core plan. Derevi is a free, recurring engine from the command zone ({1}{G}{W}{U}) and, more importantly, an untap outlet: {1}{G}{W}{U}, tap 3 untapped creatures → untap Derevi (or use her tap/untap ability to break parity on your own lock). You mulligan toward fast mana + a stax anchor or a combo shard, deploy accel on T1–2, and either slam a lock the table can’t durdle through or assemble a compact infinite-mana kill on T2–4 behind free counters.
The lock. Winter Orb and Stasis are asymmetric for you because Derevi keeps untapping your creatures (dorks stay online under Winter Orb; Derevi + an untapper keeps you the only player taking meaningful actions under Stasis). Tangle Wire adds a front-loaded tempo tax. You grind card advantage under the lock (Rhystic Study, Mystic Remora, Esper Sentinel, Sylvan Library) and tutor into a finisher. Static Orb and Root Maze were cut — both taxed your own dork/rock/fetch engine harder than the pod.
Win lines (all validated):
- Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal (primary): imprint Reversal, {2} to untap all nonland permanents; with rocks producing ≥3 this is infinite mana of every rock color + infinite Scepter activations → Blue Sun’s Zenith each opponent for lethal, or Walking Ballista.
- Devoted Druid + Swift Reconfiguration: {0} untap → infinite green → Finale of Devastation X≥10 (fetch + pump your board) or Walking Ballista via a green sink.
- Freed from the Real on Bloom Tender / Faeburrow Elder / adapted Incubation Druid (Derevi out for color spread): net-positive untap → infinite mana incl. blue → Blue Sun’s Zenith.
- Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy + Basalt Monolith: Basalt taps for CCC doubled to 6, {3} untap, +3 → infinite colorless.
- Payoffs: Walking Ballista (universal), Blue Sun’s Zenith (deck each opponent; it reshuffles into your own library so you never deck yourself), Finale of Devastation, and Umbral Mantle as a color-agnostic untap sink so the colorless/green lines aren’t single-point-of-failure on Ballista.
Protection & interaction. Free counters (Force of Will, Force of Negation, Fierce Guardianship, Pact of Negation, Flusterstorm, Mental Misstep) back the go-off turn; Grand Abolisher / Silence / Teferi’s Protection lock the stack. Endurance and Tishana’s Tidebinder patch the two meta holes — graveyard hate and a resolved activated/triggered-ability answer (incl. an opposing Thassa’s Oracle ETB).
