Strategy
Mono-blue draw-go control for the Competitive Brawl ladder, rebuilt 2026-09-20 card-by-card with Mik. The deck wins by stopping the opponent from doing things: 18 counterspells (Counterspell, Mana Leak, Remand, Void Shatter, Spellgyre, Amazing Acrobatics, Spell Snare, Spell Pierce, Three Steps Ahead, Glen Elendra’s Answer, Miscalculation, Negate, Essence Scatter, Disdainful Stroke, Long River’s Pull, Jwari Disruption, Sink into Stupor, Tishana’s Tidebinder), cheap bounce (Fading Hope, Unsummon, Into the Flood Maw, Desculpting Blast, Aetherize) and one-mana auras that blank a creature or commander without sending it back to the command zone (Witness Protection, Unable to Scream, Honest Work, Imprisoned in the Moon, Waterknot). Eluge’s flood counters turn lands into Islands, grow Eluge, and make the FIRST instant or sorcery each turn - on either player’s turn - cheaper per flooded land, so three- and four-mana hard counters, Think-Twice-style value, Spirit Water Revival and Mathemagics all cost far less here than they look. One-mana selection (Preordain, Ponder, Brainstorm, Consider) plus real draw (Winged Words, Stock Up, Lorien Revealed, Frantic Search, Spirit Water Revival, The Legend of Kuruk) keeps the hand full. Close with an unblockable Eluge (Aqueous Form, Kaito), Kairi, Lurker in the Deep, Wan Shi Tong, Eddymurk Crab, or Mathemagics for X=6 at the opponent; Turtles in Time is the reset, Octopus Form protects Eluge. 36 lands + 3 spell-lands (Sink into Stupor, Silundi Vision, Jwari Disruption); draw sim 8.2% stuck on 2 lands through turn 3. Casual-legal as well as ranked-legal. Leyline of Anticipation is out on trial - Mik may put it back.
Upgrade path
2026-09-20 Competitive Brawl rebuild: ZERO rare/mythic crafts. Crafts = 7 common (Mana Leak, Miscalculation, Mystic Sanctuary, Lorien Revealed, Silundi Vision [PIO printing], Resculpt, Imprisoned in the Moon [SIR printing]) + 3 uncommon (Mystical Tutor [MIR printing], Sink into Stupor, Jwari Disruption). Mana Leak and Miscalculation read rarity NULL in mtga.db - both verified common on Scryfall. Every rare/mythic in the list is owned. Mana Drain deliberately NOT crafted (casual-banned; Mik wants the deck casual-playable). Future rare upgrades, in order: Force of Negation, Memory Lapse, Brazen Borrower (M), Stifle, Flare of Denial, Vendilion Clique.
